Something hard and pointed slammed Garret’s head into the wheel. His speeder dipped and swerved as he caught himself on the gear shift.
A bird? A smear of blood came away on his hand when he touched the back of his head. He craned up, eyes widening as a sleek grey speeder blocked the sun above him. A curtain of blond hair swung over the edge, framing a face with wide green eyes. He lowered his hand and his fingers caught on something.
A heel. A leopard print shoe with a sharp spike as long as his hand.
He waved it toward the woman. “Is this yours?”
She grabbed a handful of hair, wincing. “I wish I could say it wasn’t. I’m so sorry about your head.”
He took pity. “Hard to drive in these, isn’t it?”
She brandished the other and he ducked. “I never want to see them again.” She hurled it over the edge and it arched over him and down into the trees below.
He lifted the other shoe questioningly.
“Throw it,” she said.
He did, and she looked so satisfied he throttled his speeder up to coast beside her. “Want to tell my why we just threw your designer shoes into the forest?”
She grinned. “Race me to Eno’s Cafe and I’ll buy you dinner. If you win, I’ll tell you.” She thrust forward before her last word was finished.
Why do YOU think she threw the shoe? Let me know in the comments!
