I felt the heat of flash cuffs crush my wrists together before a deep voice spoke from behind.
“Jennette Hayes, you’re under arrest for illegal drug possession. Please do not resist or I will render you unconscious.”
I sighed. “We’re skipping straight to that these days, are we?”
He grunted. “No thanks to your last escape.”
I spun to face him, tilting my head slightly to keep him out of my left eye’s blind spot. Lucky for him I wasn’t wearing my cuff breaker. “You’re the only bounty hunter left in the galaxy who says my name before you capture me. Why is that, Makam?”
His smile glowed against his dusky skin, half buried in a beard that hadn’t been there last time. “I’m giving you one last chance to admit the truth. I know you’re not Jennette. Did you think you’d fooled me all this while?”
“If you know I’m not, then why are you arresting me?” I jerked my chin at The Sweet Shoppe’s interior behind me. “I have chocolates to package for a very addicted Admiral.”
His eyes flicked to the front window, the fountain sputtering in the suddenly empty square outside. “We need to go. They’re coming for you.”
I quirked a brow. “Bounty hunters? When have they not been coming?”
“No. The Endmen. They know what Jennette buried here.”
My body felt like an ice sculpture ready to shatter. A shadow swelled over the square outside. I met his pitch black eyes. “All right then. Arrest me.”
